Really?

I wrote to the publisher of the Bonnie & Clyde book this morning, to see if he could send me the remaining $200 he owes me for all the work I did (I lost so much money on this job! Honestly, for all the years spent on this book, and all the hours I put into it, I will have made a total of $550, $200 of which I have yet to get.)

He replied:

Hi Tim,

The book is finally at the printers now. As it turned out, I had to
completely re-typeset it, hire a new copyeditor to completely reproof it
and ended up using a completely different book cover from another
designer. I still have to pay to have the book printed so I don't have a
lot of money left over for the second payment at the moment.

I realize that you put a lot of time into the project and helped move
things along with John. I am going to honor my previous email but I
would like you to honor the part where you said two or three payments
was OK.

I can send you a check for $100 today but the balance will have to wait until my
Amok Books cash flow gets a little more solid again. Thanks again for
all your patience with this.

I wonder why the cover had to be redone ... but I'm afraid to even ask.
