Weekly Update
Oct. 6th, 2012 12:46 amFirst off, happy birthday to
spokenn!
And onwards.
I'll have another column appearing in the paper next week- it's my September 2012 column. I originally wanted to use my April 2012 column, the one about Ike's death, but I feel it's a powerfully written column, and probably my best ... and if I use it in October, it can't be submitted to the Wyoming Press Association for consideration for an award. See, the time period for pieces to be submitted is publication dates from November 1st-October 31st. However, for the particular category in which mine would be submitted, three columns published in three consecutive months must be submitted. And right now, I only have two consecutive months (besides what was published November-February this past year). So, I'm saving it until November, and I'm going to string together three of my best. Unfortunately, besides the April column, I'm not sure what the #2 and #3 best ones are.
My misadventures with the new CPAP machine continue. I'm slowly adjusting to the mask. It really makes the bridge of my nose sore, and now, there's a further complication. I have Sebcaceous Hyperplasia, a benign skin disorder that is primarily cosmetic, and requires cosmetic surgery to remove. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by my health insurance, of course, and i don't expect that it should be. I haven't had any new nodules show up in a long time, but once they do appear, they don't go away without being physically removed. I don't like them, but it's not like my mug can get much uglier without a major disfigurement, so I just live with them. However, there is one prominent nodule on the bridge of my nose ... and the sleep mask is apparently doing it's damnest to rip it off my face. Yesterday morning, I noticed it was bleeding. Putting a small bandaid over it helps some, but I think I'm going to have to have it removed.
Not sure what to do about the general soreness of my nose. I really don't want to switch to a full face mask.
It's still hard to tell how well it's working for me, but there are some general indications. First of all, I don't get up in the night to pee as much. Which is nice. Also, while I don't have a huge increase of energy, what I do have is an increased stamina. I'm not as tired when I get up, and I don't tire as easily or as quickly as I used to. Thirdly, I've been having some really whacked-out dreams (Like leading a mutant camel-moose around by its collar through the building where I first worked in newspaper and interrupting Justin Bieber calling Donald trump on the phone). I haven't dreamt like this for so long that I forget when it last happened. Apparently, I'm finally sleeping deeply enough again to reach REM state, which is good for me, I'm told.
It's amusing, if nothing else.
The week became dramatically colder; Tuesday was near 80 degrees; Wednesday closer to only 50. I scrambled to finish my house repairs, but didn't make it before it got cold- I still need to do some painting before I continue, and hopefully next week it will warm up into the 60s again, so i can finish up. I don't mind working in the cold, but the paint just won't dry.
It was snowing when I left for work tonight. It won't stick, but it's a sign of what's to come. I'm not ready for the cold yet; I seem to feel it more every year.
Playing in heavy rotation in my brain this week has been this 80s lackluster single of the BeeGees:
