Did my at-home sleep study last night. That was a nightmare, let me tell you.

The monitor was about the size of a phone receiver, and it stuck to my forehead with sensor pads; there were hoses that come down from it into my nostrils, and the whole thing was held on by straps around my head that were very tight at their largest setting. (They included a tape measure to measure my head for the best fit; mine was setting ten, for >24" I also had to measure my neck for some reason; it's still 22". My head is a thumb, it seems.)

If I bumped it in the night, a little voice woul say, "Sensors misaligned; reposition Unicoder device on forehead" or something like that.

It suppoesdly needed 6 hours of sleep to work right. I hope that doesn't have to be uninnterrupted sleep, because that hasn't happened in years. I got up once to pee, again to pee, again to turn off the swamp cooler, again to let out the cat, again to let in the cat, again to turn on the swamp cooler, again to let out the cat, again to pee and once more to let out the cat, I think.

Sleeping on my side made the straps dig into my head and knocked it loose, giving me a lovely message. Sleeping on my back has not been a position of choice since I was five; I ca't even do it any more.

I've never been so glad to get up in the morning as i was today.

Apparently, the sleep sensor records snoring. They do warn to turnoff all TVs and radios and room fans in the area while using it. I wonder how clearly it picks up sounds. Because, there may end up being a large amount of peeing and meowing being on that recording.

Doesn't do a thing for your dignity, does it? The whole business is like something out of Red Dwarf. I wonder if the neighbours have ever glimpsed me wandering the house in the wee hours, mask left strapped to my nose, masses of hair exploding out from beneath all the straps, and probably naked.
