Last Tuesday, my mother called me to let me know she was going to go into the hospital for three weeks. In preparation for the holidays, she is going to have a lot of physical therapy to build her strength. She made it sound like a trip to the spa: fun, relaxing, invigorating.

I just got done talking to my father. The reality is that my mothers MS has gotten much worse in the past 3 months, so much so that she can no longer use her left arm; so much so that most likely, after returning from the hospital and spending Christmas at home, she will be going to a nursing home for the rest of her life.

I'm not ready for this.
