On the radio this morning, it was reported that President Bush will veto the latest bill to expand embryonic stem cell research. They quoted* him as saying, "It is immoral to expect American taxpayers to support the destruction of human life."

Guess he'll be vetoing the next war bill then, won't he?

I'm not holding my breath.

The United States is no longer at the fore-front of scientific research in the world; hell, I don't think we're even in the race any more.

*I have not been able to find a corroborating source for the radio news quote yet, but I'm still looking. Meanwhile, here's some links to the story:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/06/20/bush.stem.cell.ap/index.html

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Jun19/0,4670,BushStemCells,00.html

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19323446/

The last link contains the closest I can find to the radio quote; looks like they may have paraphrased:

"In his veto threat, the president accused Democrats of recycling an old measure that he already vetoed and argued that the bill would mean American taxpayers would — for the first time — be compelled to support the deliberate destruction of human embryos."
