In April, I'm making the grand journey from Wyoming to Maryland to visit the family. This will be my first visit since my mother moved to the nursing home. My immediate family is now spread out all over Garrett County, and so, for the first time, I think I'll be staying in a hotel when I visit, instead of at a family member's house.
The cheapest place I've found so far, also is one of the niftiest:

My original plan was to make this trip via train, in a Sleeperette room. It's been a dream of mine for awhile, and I almost pulled it off, but then the rates start going up for train tickets, and plane fare started coming down, to the point where the difference is currently just shy of $1k. Sure, I could still do the train trip, but that would leave me with very little money left over for things like a rental car and staying at a nifty hotel.
Or a bouquet of flowers for my mother, and one for my grandmother, who is now also in the same nursing home.
So, I'll fly into D.C., then probably travel as far as Frederick, where I'll spend the night and the next day visiting friends in the area. Then I'll head to western Maryland, check in at the hotel, pick up some flowers, and surprise some family members at the nursing home who think I'll be arriving the next day. ;)
