Ike seems to have almost fully recovered from whatever weirdness he did to his leg Saturday night. He limps a little more than usual, and it still occasionally twists at an odd angle, but nothing like it did then. It doesn't seem to hurt him. He's spending more time resting though, which isn't a bad thing, because the goofy dog would want to chase a ball if he had no legs and was on his deathbed. I went out yesterday to buy him some squeaky toys (They only last a matter of minutes, and he makes a horrible mess of them, but it keeps him occupied and happy in one place) and managed to get 10 things I didn't go to the store for, and forgot the squeaky toys. I'll get some today.

We think he dislocated his shoulder, and it relocated either sometime in the night or Sunday morning. My vet was talking to me about possible surgeries for him if it hadn't worked out, most of which would involve travel to another state. Surgery, however, is not a realistic proposition for a number of reasons, mostly because the rest of his body isn't in good enough shape to take over while one leg heals up. He's had a good life; he turns 10 this year, which is a respectful age for a large dog, and he's lived years longer than anyone expected him to live.

I am really glad to hear he seems to have made a good recovery :)

Thanks. Even though he's lasted far longer than anyone thought he could, it doesn't mean I'm ready to give him up yet!
