2012 was a year when bad things didn't really happen to me as much as they happened around me.

I don't want to summarize the entire year; it's all on LJ anyway, for the most part. But here's the highlights:

In January, my father's health continued to decline. Each time he had a spell in the hospital, he'd come back hoping to get just a little better. He always had more hope than I did. He wanted to walk again, to work in his shop again ... I told him his job now was to just be a grandfather.

I also won an award from the Wyoming Press Association for an ad I designed. That's always nice. And Jinx caught a giant squirrel. nbsp; Work continued on the Bonnie & Clyde book, although I was already beginning to regret accepting the job.

I also worked on a side project to surprise a friend of mine called Universe In the Red, a book collecting all of the author's out-of-print and never-printed material. It was a labor of joy and respect, and while I never quite finished it, the author was very pleased with what I presented to her, and she and I can easily pick up where I left off at any point and finish the book.

My column writing continued, and I had one published monthly in the newspaper until March, when a disagreement occurred over how much ownership i retained of my writing. This wasn't settled until the fall, when an agreement was worked out in my favor, and my columns started reappearing in the paper once more.

In May, I went back east to visit my father and other family. Sadly, in April, knowing the trip was coming up, the decision was made to put Ike down. He and I were both ready, and it went well.

I still miss him.

The summer went quickly, and was not over memorable. i received a raise at the hotel, the first one in over half a decade.

In October, Andy and I made a trip to Albuquerque, and the decision was finally made to move there, but no date was set, and still has not been set.

In November, my father died.

In December, I found out from ASCAP that GEMA (The German music management company) had never registered me properly on the song I wrote, so I had not received any royalties from it. ASCAP cleared things up for me, but I won't receive a royalty payout from Germany until November 2013 ... three years after the song was released.

In December, I also reached a milestone of two years of monthly columns written. To some people, it may not sound like much, but to me, it's an accomplishment. I don't know that I've continuously continued creating like that for so long, ever.

And here we are again. A new year. Two years smoke free. And resolutions to make ...

I resolve to make 2013 better than 2012.
And hope the same for all of you, as well.
