Oral surgery is fun!
Sep. 23rd, 2007 04:25 pmSo a week ago, the roommate and I traveled to Rock Springs. I had an appointment to have a tooth removed and a bone graft put in, since my history of poor dental upkeep has been catching up with me. Granted the years of poor dental upkeep were a result of little to no dental insurance. Anyway, my lower left incisor has been getting looser and looser as the bone around it got eaten away more and more, and it had to be removed before the teeth around it began to be affected as well.
The appointment was on Monday morning, so we went down the day before to look around the city and enjoy our selves, as I knew the next day I wouldn't want to do anything. We went to a strange little mall, and some game stores, ate at a Sonic, bought a bunch of games at Hastings and Wal-Mart, and later that evening, I actually found a sushi restaurant, which made the entire trip worth it.
The next morning, I took3 milligrams of Ativan in preparation for the surgery, ate a light breakfast of eggs and ham, and then headed off to the periodontists' office.
I honestly don't remember much about the procedure. There were injections, at one point the removed tooth was shown to me, I remember coughing on something running down my throat, um... I think we went to Wal-Greens for water and an ice pack, and then I woke up when Ike the dog jumped up on the bed with me.
Four hours of time, about 10 minutes of memories.
My mouth hurt pretty badly for the first week, and it was swollen as well. Now, the stitches are irritating me fiercely. I've been putting anbesol on them to kill the pain, although there is one spot that has me worried, as it's much more painful than I expect is proper. I may stop by my dentists office and have him look at it if it doesn't get better.
Here's some pictures; they're not graphic or bloody.
