2014: A quick year in review
Jan. 3rd, 2015 03:00 pmI never would have predicted 2014 would be one of the most exciting and interesting years in my life.
The highlights:
Andy and I bought a house.
I was hired on as a permanent employee with the company I had been temping with.
I nearly died when my body decided my blood should start clotting in large amounts while still inside me.
I had emergency open chest surgery on my heart and lungs to remove the clots, and ended up in a sedated coma for nearly two weeks.
I made the painful decision to stop writing my monthly column until my health and cognitive abilities returned.
I healed back to near-normal actually rather quickly, no matter how slow it seemed to go from my point of view. I'll need to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life, though.
And then ... discovered the wires holding my sternum together had broken and my sternum was now healed into multiple, separate pieces, requiring further surgery to put it all back together. This will happen on January 14th.
As for 2015? I'll make the same resolution I always do: To make the new year better than the last.
