1- In March, I got new glasses. Progressive bifocals. I've never adjusted to them. When I stopped in the optometrist's office in July, I was told that the glasses are fine, it can take up to a month to adjust to them. So, I'm going to wear them all of September.
Man, does this suck. They're fine for just general-purpose looking around, but as soon as I want to zero in on something (Like a license plate across the parking lot, or my computer screen) I have the worst time focusing. I also feel like I am looking through Iron Man's mask when I wear them, due to their narrow, square shape.
I'll see how I feel about them at the end of the month. They were also exspensive- almost $800, I believe. If I can't adjust to them, I doubt that I can get a refund at this point, but I won't ever get another pair like them.
2- Buddy is totally at home now in the house. He's putting on weight and filling out; he's not as bony any more. I'm hoping that in time his gingivitis clears up too. And he and Ike get along fine now.
Jinx and Buddy, however, are a different story. They still posture and hiss at each other. Jinx comes in the house to eat some canned food once a day, and I think he might be losing a little weight. Unfortunately, he also sprayed the wall in Mel's room today. He hasn't done anything like that since he was fixed 3 years ago. I don't want to get rid of either of them, but if it comes down to making a choice, Jinx gets to stay- it was his home first. But Buddy is such a sweetie; it'll be heartbreaking if I need to find a new home for him. In little over a week, I've gotten very attached to him.
3- I'm looking forward to the surgery on my hand, because I'm tired of the pain, and I'm tired of my hands not working right, and I'm tired of dropping things. I am NOT looking forward to only having the use of my left hand during the recovery, for however long that may be. I really need to read the pre-op instructions. This surgery will be done with local anesthesia, thankfully. And I will make SURE of that going into this one- no more surprises!
Of course this has to happen when I'm insanely busy. Besides the two jobs, I also have a book cover design to finish, as well pagination and layout on two other books, as well as artwork for a story in Grim Furry Tales ... but honestly, when am I not busy? I don't have downtime. I just have to get this done and deal with it. I just have to get as much of it all done before thursday as I can. In addition to fixing a co-workers borked computer. And assembling a bunch of peripherals I bought for my mother to use in her nursing home room.
By the time thursday rolls around, i wont need the surgery- I'll have worn my hands away to tiny nubbins on the end of hands.
4- Big scare in the town yesterday, with over 80 people reporting gas leaks in their homes, the local grocery store and the court house being evacuated ... turns out too much of the safety scent was added to the natural gas. Natural gas has no scent, so the rotten-egg like smell associated with gas is added by the supplier so a gas leak can be detected. This time, however, there was no leaks, just so much of the scent was present that normal use of the gas (stoves, waterheaters, etc.) released an alarming amount of the odor into the air.
The odor is going to take about 20 hours to dissipate, I've heard. But tonight at the hotel, it's still nauseatingly strong.
Random amusing quote of the day:

outsdr: That's why I wear supportive underpants.
