Pick up some ArctiClean, by ArticSilver. It eats away at old thermal grease and pads, and then you wipe it off. Seriously, it took me three minutes to clean up all traces of thermal grease off of a heat sink. Usually, I'm smearing and scrubbing for ten minutes with alcohol and whatnot. It's cheap too, but buy it when you order something else or you'll end up paying the same amount in shipping as well.
