May. 4th, 2008 04:38 amCan I just take a moment and point out how insane this is? This type of hysterical overreaction to a video game is completely out of proportion to any alleged harm it could inflict on anyone, but is accepted because it is done, as it always is, in the name of protecting The Children.
Yeah, it's always about protecting The Children, which leads me to wonder where The Parents are, and if these people are so serious about making the world better for The Children, why they don't invest the same amount of energy and resources into securing quality healthcare and world-class education for them as they spend wringing their hands over video games that aren't even supposed to be played by The Children in the first place.
Give The Children the tools and knowledge to critically think for themselves and they'll be able to handle the world.

The League of Extraordinary 21st Century Gentlebeings:
Jackie Chan (The martial arts/fighting expert, Field leader) (And really, he's the only person in the world I can truly accept putting on spandex and fighting crime as a super-hero)
Lee David Zlotoff (Builder & fixer jack-of-all-trades) (I readily admit this one is stretching the boundaries of my requirements, as most people aren't going to know that he is the creator and inspiration for MacGuyver, as well as the Make Faire)
Martha Stewart (Builder & fixer jack-of-all-trades)
Stephen Hawkings (Genius, Team leader)
Bill Gates (Computer Expert, Financial benefactor)
The Amazing Randi (Magician & Detective) (Stretching notoriety here again, I know)
Koko (Highly-evolved ape, Muscle)
Former League Members:
Helen Keller (Can't think of what her part would be, but she would be on the team, I'm sure)
Teddy Roosevelt (Adventurer, Field leader)
Winston Churchill (Group Leader)
Steve Irwin (Animal handling, adventurer, Field leader)
Mata Hari (Undercover espionage)
Houdini (Escape artist, detective, Team Hottie)
Howard Hughes (Secretive, reclusive Base Leader, Team benefactor)
Marie Curie, Davy Crocket, Harriet Tubman, etc etc...
Those who almost, but didn't, make the cut:
Oprah Winfrey (Communications Expert?) Has the notoriety; I just wasn't sure what makes her "Super"
Amelia Earhart Again, has the notoriety, but if I would choose any pilot, it would be Charles Lindberg, as he was more successful and also had the motivation.
Richard Branson (Benefactor, Adventurer) Bill Gates has more money, and geek-cred.
