Mom's decided not to go through any treatment, just let the tumor run its course. While I would have liked her to have more time (obviously) this is probably for the best; chemotherapy and radiation treatment is hell for someone who is otherwise healthy, and she's not. I'm flying back Thursday and will be able to five days with her.

As it is now, as the tumor grows, she'll just become more and more fatigued and confused as time goes on, until finally she just sleeps away. It doesn't sound like there will be much pain, if any. The tumor is growing fast and stealing a lot of blood from the brain; the worst that could happen is one of the fast-growing blood vessels could burst, which would kill her in minutes.

Her only piece of unfinished business is a book she has been writing about the long history of the nursing home she is in. It's nearly finished, and as luck would have it, I'm the only one who can finish it for her. So I'll be working on that while I'm there with her.

There are worse ways to go. Be with her and keep her as comforted as you can. You finishing the book is a nice memorial to her.
