I read a column about gay barebacking videos, and how they are increasing in popularity, which is a real blow to safer-sex advocates (barebacking is anal sex without consdoms). Many of the performers in these movies are already HIV+.

One of the producers of these movies stated that HIV Negativity is "the new virginity".

And I just shuddered. The idea that that only cause of death to a gay man is HIV is not an idea that should be endorsed in any way.

Yes, but they are making an informed decision in the videos. As fantasy, there isn't anything wrong with them. It's just how the viewing public chooses to take what they see. If they're rational, it won't spill over into their lives. If they're lemmings, well, they're lemmings. I don't think that these videos in particular are making people do anything they wouldn't already do.

That's the same argument about video games and violence. The games don't make kids violent, it just gives them ideas.

Except for one thing: Violence in video games and (most) movies is _fake_. Barebacking in videos is _not_. It's not a fantasy depictation of risk, it _is_ risk.
