I'm watching this while working on UitR. Screw the haters- The movie is awesome.

Random thoughts:

Will Sasso was cute!

Grace: I suppose you knew Marie Curie too?
Doctor: Intimately!
Grace: Did she kiss as good as me?
Master: As well as you.

These shoes! They fit perfectly!

Ah, Paul McGann. So much lost potential there. I truly hope he gets to return during the 50th season. That's my dream for the 50th anniversary- that all living Doctors and Companions return somehow. At the very least, it would be criminal if Susan and Ian don't make a return.

"Don't shoot. He's ... British!"

Again, screw the haters the car chases are awesome too!

The Universal map in the TARDIS ceiling is fantastic. This may be my favorite console room design.

I'll admit, the Superman the Movie resolution at the end is weak and could have been done better, but that's a small thing overall.

I'm watching this for the first time since it aired on Maryland Public Television in the 80s. Bought the DVD a while back, and now I'm finding time to watch it.

It doesn't upsample well on my BluRay player. Some random thoughts:

The Doctor bursts into the church and shouts that all he wants is Tegan's bag! But he wasn't there when it was taken, and hasn't talked to her since. Psychic Doctor!

Oh dear ... I used to have the biggest crush on Will Chandler when I saw this originally. I apparently had weird tastes in my teens. Ewww.

The Doctor has history with ominous cracks in walls.

His interactions with Will are touching. I remember hoping that at the end of the story, Will would continue as a companion. I still think he would have made a good one, although probably too much like Jamie to ever have had a chance of happening. I wonder how much of his interactions were from residual guilt over Adric's death?

When Tegan runs through the puddle in her red high heels ... that had to suck.

I'm loving the school teacher, Jayne Hampton. She also would have made a good companion.

Ike keeps bugging me for pettins. I have work to do, lol!

Peter Davison was so very good as the Doctor. I liked Tom Baker, but it was Peter I wanted to travel with.

"You speak treason!" Doctor: "Fluently!"

The Malus is still creepy. Especially when it dies. The Doctor kills it rather casually in the TARDIS, doesn't he? Probably because he knows it's not really killing it.

The destruction of the church is impressive.

Overall, it still holds up as a favorite of mine. Now to watch the extras, including the famous horse scene.

I am listening to Short Trips - Volume III by Big Finish, and Peter Davison reading as Peri is a scream!

(I originally wrote "Peter Davison doing Peri" but luckily re-read it before posting.)

During my snooze before work, I had two Doctor Who dreams. The second one, I only vaguely remember- essentially, all the Doctors got together, including #12, and me, and another man who claimed to be Doctor #13 ... but as all the other Doctors conferred, #13 got meaner and nastier until finally everyone realized he was the Valeyard incarnation and I was actually Doctor #13.

The first dream was short, but very atmospheric and intense. Four pillars in a night-time sky are connected by Gothic arches; as lightning crashes and a storm approaches, I walk over one arch while Rory walks opposite me; we're in a race to reach Amy first. Rory is wearing his black uniform and eye patch; I am wearing a hooded cloak that hides my face, so neither of them realize that I am actually The Doctor, as seen at the end of the last story. Rory lags behind and I reach Amy at the top of an arch. I hold her shoulders in my hands and look into her eyes, ignoring her confusion and say, "I'm so sorry. Please forgive me." Rory starts to scream as the heavens fall.

Almost a year ago, I wrote a fan letter.

Today, in the mail, I received a response. It was a form letter, and a postacrd of Matt Smith signed by Steven, but it was much more than I expected!

Yeah, pretty much loved everything about that episode.

Except the robots. Except except for Rory the Robot.

Hate the new coat for the Doctor though- too close to 10 Doc's.

Got to admit- I liked "Night Terrors" better the first time, back when it was called "The Empty Child."

And I can't always watch objectively. "A Good Man Goes To War." I loved it. It was suspenseful, dramatic, actionic, humorous, and pushed all the right buttons.

A friend did:

Originally posted by Moffat on the rec.arts.doctor.who group, January 1995 "Here’s a particularly stupid theory. If we take “The Doctor” to be the Doctor’s name – even if it is in the form of a title no doubt meaning something deep and Gallifreyan – perhaps our earthly use of the word “doctor” meaning healer or wise man is direct result of the Doctor’s multiple interventions in our history as a healer and wise man. In other words, we got it from him. This is a very silly idea and I’m consequently rather proud of it."

This guy doesn't throw away any ideas, does he? Wow.

Looking back over my life, I cannot remember a single time when I have ever used the phrase "instant classic."

Until now.

This episode is an instant classic. From last week's episode to this one, the show has gone from one extreme to the other. This show felt good.

This is an episode (Like the Doctor's Daughter) that makes me embarrassed to be a Doctor Who fan.

My best birthday present today has been a short story from [livejournal.com profile] kateorman , which I won in an auction benefiting relief efforts in Japan. I'm hoping she'll share it herself, because it's awesome. I asked her to write the 8th Doctor's regeneration. I only wish I could afford to pay her to write an entire novel!
